Milan Fashion Week (MFW) has kicked off with a combination of digital and live presentations, and with many more in-person runway shows than the three that were held at London Fashion Week, which wrapped on Tuesday.

Fendi hosted a live show on Wednesday with a socially distant front row featuring “Normal People” star Paul Mescal. The theme was family and, fittingly, invitations came in the form of Fendi-branded pasta along with copies of designer Silvia Venturini Fendi’s grandmother’s lemon pesto recipe.

Here’s Who’s Showing During New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week officially — strangely, unprecedentedly — kicked off on Sunday, Sept. 14, with a socially-distant runway show on the roof of Spring Studios in Manhattan.

Typically a six-day affair filled with back-to-back (and sometimes overlapping) events across the city, from first thing in the morning to late at night, it’s been reimagined amid a global pandemic. First off, it’s shorter than past season’s: IMG’s lineup is five days, the CFDA’s is four. The vast majority of brands on both calendars have, predictably, opted to present their latest digitally — be it through lookbooks, videos, animated runways or

NY Fashion Week 2020: Pared down, and virtually all virtual

NEW YORK — No celebs packing the front rows. No paparazzi chasing models down the streets. No stiletto-heeled crowds. No crowds at all, actually. Is there even a point to doing New York Fashion Week in 2020?

Well, yes, say organizers: It’s about economic survival.

“Ultimately fashion is a business, and Fashion Week is a platform for designers to do business,” says Steven Kolb, chief executive of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which organizes the semi-annual event. “So this is about jobs … it’s about people’s livelihoods. It’’s about moving forward, but cautiously, with safety in mind.”

So, is Fashion Week Happening or Not in September 2020?

The short answer is kinda. This year’s fashion calendar has been ravaged by Covid-19 and the result is a chaotic blend of no-one really knowing whether attending a fashion show is safe or knowing if flying to Paris means quarantining for two weeks upon return (if you’re flying back to the UK, the answer is yes.

It has also resulted in some designers flinging tradition out the window and trying out something new altogether. Virgil Abloh, for example, elected to take his Louis Vuitton SS21 menswear collection to Shanghai and Tokyo, while Jacquemus continued with an off-schedule collection presented
