ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – One person was taken to a hospital with a non-critical gunshot wound after an incident at Roanoke’s Valley View Mall Saturday night. No one has been arrested.

Roanoke Police say they responded to a report of shots fired on the upper level of the mall following a call at 6:37 p.m.

The mall was evacuated, and teams of emergency crews went through the mall to make sure there was no existing threat, systematically checking each area before escorting people to safety, added Roanoke Police Chief Sam Roman.

NEW: From Roanoke Police Department: On December 26, 2020 at about 6:37 PM, Roanoke Police were dispatched to 4802 Valley View Boulevard regarding a report of shots fired inside the mall on the upper level.

Upon arrival, officers located an individual who had been struck by
gunfire. Roanoke Fire-EMS transported the individual to Carilion Roanoke
Memorial Hospital for treatment. Additional responding officers along with members from the Roanoke County Police Department and the Virginia State Police responded to assist in safely clearing the patrons from the mall.

One person hospitalized after argument led to shooting at Valley View Mall

ROANOKE, Va.UPDATE: Dec. 26, 2020 at 8:42 p.m.

One person is hospitalized after shots were fired in Valley View Mall on Saturday night.

At about 6:37 p.m., police said they received a call about gunfire inside the mall and officers were on the scene several minutes later.

According to Roanoke Police Chief Sam Roman, there were four shots fired and police were able to locate a victim in the shooting.

The victim was transported by Roanoke Fire-EMS to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Instead of another skincare kiosk or clothing store, malls across the country are seeing a new tenant during the COVID-19 pandemic: pop-up testing sites.

That trend is coming to the Lehigh Valley Mall, as QuestCap announced it is bringing a pop-up testing site to the Whitehall Township shopping center.

The Lehigh Valley spot is part of QuestCap’s contract with Simon Property Group for 165 sites, said Tim Shelburn, QuestCap’s US manager. That includes the King of Prussia Mall, Oxford Valley Mall, Philadelphia Premium Outlets, Montgomery Mall and Philadelphia Mills in Pennsylvania.
