Staten Island Mall hours for Thanksgiving, Black Friday

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Staten Island Mall in New Springville will be closed on Thanksgiving, as many retailers want to keep crowds to a minimum amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, the shopping center will be open on Black Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to the Mall’s website.

James Easley, senior Mall manager, said the decision to remain closed on Thanksgiving was made by the retail center’s parent company, Brookfield Properties.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — “This is getting ridiculous. The goal posts keep moving,” said Councilman Steven Matteo (R-South Shore), referring to the decision by Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo to prohibit malls from opening in New York City.

Malls have been allowed to open in Phase 4 in all other parts of the state except New York City.

“The Staten Island Mall should be opened today. How is it safe to walk into Lowe’s or Target, but unsafe to go into the spacious Staten Island Mall, which just installed a state-of-the-art air filtration system to further safeguard

Matteo: ‘With Staten Island Mall closed, N.Y. is losing tax revenue to N.J.’

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Councilman Steven Matteo (R-Mid-Island) said he can’t stand seeing Staten Islanders cross a bridge to New Jersey to spend their money in Garden State malls.

And the reason borough residents seem to be doing that more these days is the Staten Island Mall, New Springville has remained shuttered — with the exception of stores that have exterior entrances — due to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s mandate prohibiting indoor malls in New York City from opening amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Malls in all other parts of New York state have been allowed to open.
