Charity shops fear deluge of donations when they reopen in June

Charity shops fear they will be deluged by donations when they start to reopen in just over two weeks.

English stores will start opening their doors on 15 June, in line with government guidance.

But they face a number of challenges after the coronavirus closures with all new offerings set to be quarantined for 72 hours.

Robin Osterley, chief executive of the Charity Retail Association, says shops are expecting to be “full to bursting”.

The UK’s 11,000 charity shops help raise almost £300m for good causes each year.

The list of shops and services set to reopen on June 15 amid coronavirus

The Government has unveiled its full list of retailers that can reopen under new guidelines, with fashion stores, betting shops and charity stores all allowed to welcome back customers from June 15.

Ministers were keen to stress the date could change if reductions in coronavirus infections fail to meet expectations and the experience will be very different.

Shoppers are urged not to try on clothes in store, for example.

Gift shops in museums, retail spaces in theatres, libraries, heritage sites and tourism sites will also be allowed to open – paving the way for visitors to return to tourist

Protests turn violent in Los Angeles on May 30, 2020.

A peaceful protest that started out in Pan Pacific Park in Los Angeles on Saturday turned violent as protestors made their way from Fairfax Village to Beverly Hills. On May 30, thousands of protestors demanding justice following the death of George Floyd vandalized and set fire to numerous Los Angeles Police Department vehicles near the intersection of 3rd Street and Beverly Boulevard.

Around 3 p.m. local time, the LAPD declared the protest taking place on Fairfax Avenue an unlawful assembly as authorities fired rubber bullets and arrested protesters

Popular Boca Raton mall reopens with less than 20 shops, few customers

BOCA RATON, Fla. – As businesses begin to reopen in Palm Beach County, the Boca Town Center Mall has joined in.

There are fewer than 20 stores actually open inside the mall, and Local 10 News’ Ian Margol didn’t see many people there.

It appears even though the mall has reopened, not everyone is comfortable coming back yet.

“It wasn’t that many people,” said shopper Karl Guillaume. “Everybody was keeping six feet, as required. I looked up online and they said it was like 25% people, maximum.”
