New Dallas restaurant concept snaps up former Houston’s Addison space

There’s a restaurant taking over the Addison location that was formerly home to Houston’s: Called Brentwood, it’s a new concept from Vandelay Hospitality Group, and according to a release, it will open in the fall.

Houston’s, the beloved classy concept from California, closed that location in June 2020 after 40 years. Its sibling Hillstone is still open in Dallas’ Preston Center.

Vandelay is the Dallas restaurant group founded in 2012 by Hunter Pond whose concepts include Hudson House, East Hampton Sandwich Co., Drake’s Hollywood, and Lucky’s Hot Chicken. Brentwood will be Vandelay’s fifth concept.

Macaron shop with a cute name, Woops!, opens first Dallas shop

As the story goes, a group of friends decided to sell macarons in 2012 in New York City. At their first few events, their macarons were “wildly popular,” says franchise owner Eric Hooper. “And they looked at each other and said, ‘Woops! We made a business.’”

That’s where Woops! Bakeshop gets its silly name.

Video shows man’s racist rant inside Dallas shoe store

‘Racial slur after racial slur’: Employee says man shouted vulgar and derogatory slurs at Black and Latino clerks after being denied service.

DALLAS — A recording of a man going on a racist rant at a shoe store in Dallas is getting viral attention online.

The video was initially posted online by Yamani Martin. She says she and her colleagues were in the shop when the man entered the store asking to exchange a pair of boots. Martin says the man began cursing and shouting derogatory and hateful words when his request was denied.

1 person shot at Galleria Dallas mall; police say shooter is at large

Updated at 9:50 p.m.: Revised to include additional information from police.

One person was wounded as shots rang out at the Galleria Dallas mall on Tuesday evening, sending panicked shoppers running for stairwells and freight elevators.

Dallas police said hours later that two males, in their teens or early 20s, had gotten into an argument that ended with one of them shooting the other just before 6:45 p.m. in the Far North Dallas mall’s food court.

The two appeared to know each other, said Sr. Cpl. Melinda Gutierrez, a police spokeswoman, and the incident was not an active-shooter situation.
